Project Synopsis
Wansbeck District Council requested Warm Protection Products Ltd to inspect and submit an independent report on all of the existing roller shutters installed at Newbiggin Sports Centre.
When the Newbiggin Sports Centre Manager contacted Warm Protection Products Ltd his main priority was the two existing galvanised steel, manually operated, roller shutters covering the openings to the sports equipment store areas. Warm Protection Products Ltd had highlighted these two shutters in their report. Although this type of shutter has been used for this sort of application for many years they are in fact outdated and heavy. This type of roller shutter is giving way to technological advances and to new roller shutter systems.
The Sports Hall is split into two different halves. One half is for non-contact sports and the other half is for contact sports, with each half having its own sports equipment storage area. For the contact sport side the Heavy Duty WP53 Double Skinned Extruded Aluminium Roller Shutter System was specified, as this shutter is situated directly behind the five-a-side goal, so overall strength was paramount. The lighter weight WP54mm Roll-Formed Foam Filled Aluminium Roller Shutter System was specified for the non-contact sport side to cover the opening to the sports equipment store. By using Somfy single-phase manual override motor operation plus switching by Somfy multi-channel remote, it was possible for both roller shutter doors to be operated from one key fob handset. The inclusion of the multi-channel remote system was simply to make the opening and closing of both roller shutters as user friendly as possible.
Warm Protection Products Ltd removed and disposed of the existing galvanised steel roller shutters and installed and commissioned the new roller shutters within a timescale that did not impact on any pre-booked activities within the Sports Hall.
The selection of the above roller shutter systems and operation type enabled Warm Protection Products Ltd to provide the correct roller shutter system within the strict budget allocated to this project.
