Client Testimonial

Security was a major concern for our client when designing this building and the integration of security shutters was critical to the success of the design.

Warm Protection products were identified at planning stage and once selected, they were very involved during the detail design stage to advise and agree suitable construction details and the operational control strategy for the shutters.

The successes of the integrated shutter systems are the result of specifying Warm Protection’s high quality products and the expertise and cooperation of their staff.

Project Synopsis

The Blyth Links Lifeguard and Amenity Building on the newly regenerated Blyth Links foreshore was designed to bear a resemblance to a boat at sea, while choice of material pallet and building massing remained sympathetic to the nearby listed wartime structures, providing a unique striking design.

The security of the building was a major concern, with this in mind the Project Leader from Blyth Valley Council’s Architects Department enlisted the expertise of Warm Protection Products Ltd.

The Architect’s specification of a high security roller shutter with vision and concealed roller shutter box and guide rails, was achieved using the WP42/36 Perforated Vision Master Extruded Aluminium Roller Shutter System, with Somfy single phase manual override motors and a site specific installation detail.

The materials used in the building process and the position of the building meant that technical knowledge from Warm Protection Products Ltd was of vital importance to this project.

The ground floor of the building is made from pre-cast concrete panels. With input from Warm Protection Products Ltd these panels were formed to create space for the roller shutter box and guide rails, to ensure they remained hidden behind the outer skin of the building. This left only the curtains and edges of guide rail tracks visible to the exterior of the building. The roller shutters were colour coated to the Architect’s choice in a polyurethane powder coat finish because of the close proximity of the building to the sea.

The building is multi-use and this in turn leads to the potential problem of access by different user groups. This problem was solved by using various switching and grouped control options.

The opening and closing of the building is tailored to suit the individual needs of each user by incorporating a Multi-Channel Remote Control System. By programming individual user requirements into the multi-channel systems the user can only open and close a roller shutter or shutters that are programmed to his or her key fob handset. This means users can access the building but not fully open the building if they are not authorised to. This system gives a very secure opening and closing protocol. A Battery Backup System is also included to the main entry/exit doorway roller shutter to enable staff to enter the building in the event of a power failure.

The three garages to the rear of the building use the WP36mm Double Skinned Extruded Aluminium Roller Shutter System. This is operated by Somfy single-phase manual override motors with remote control switching and a battery back up facility.

The specification agreed upon by Blyth Valley Council’s Architects Department and Warm Protection Products Ltd details a concealed roller shutter installation. The WP42/36 Perforated Vision Master Roller Shutter System was installed with a state of the art control system that allows multiple user groups to open and close specific areas within the building. This allows the building to retain its visually striking appearance with a security roller shutter system that does not detract from its original design concept.
